First: “SGN airport” is not a complete destination
Tan Son Nhat has terminals T1, T2 and T3, with different drop-off points. Official sources were checked on 10 October 2026, but terminal assignments can change; an airline list in an older article is not confirmation for your flight. Open the airline’s latest booking or check-in information and check the date, flight number and terminal for each leg. If anything is unclear, ask the operating airline.
- Check arrival and departure separately, including each domestic and international leg
- Share the confirmed terminal, departure or arrival level and the specified meeting point with your driver
Make the pickup unambiguous
Prepare one short pickup brief: local arrival date, flight number, confirmed terminal, passenger count, bags and the hotel’s full address. Landing time is not the time you will reach the curb; allow for the applicable arrival formalities and baggage collection. Agree when to make contact, the level and exit to meet at, and what to do if the flight is late or you cannot find each other.
- Avoid posting passport images or full ticket screenshots publicly; arrange pickup with the necessary trip and meeting details
- Confirm the currency, airport charges, waiting fees and cancellation terms in writing
Choosing your ride into the city
Compare more than the lowest advertised fare. For a prearranged transfer, match the vehicle and meeting instructions. With a ride-hailing service, follow the pickup zone shown in the app and check the registration plate and destination before boarding. For a taxi, ask airport staff for the designated queue and clarify how the fare is calculated. A vehicle’s seat count does not tell you how many large suitcases it can carry.
- If considering a bus, check the current route, last departure, baggage arrangements and walk from the stop; do not rely on an old fare
- For hotels with several branches, confirm the street and number rather than only a translated name
Changing terminals: transport and flight procedures are separate
A May 2025 Civil Aviation Authority notice describes a free landside shuttle between T1, T2 and T3 and a separate airside transfer arrangement. These are different services. Treat that dated notice as background, not a current timetable or pickup map. Follow current signs and airline staff instructions to identify the route available to you, including whether you must leave the secure area, and allow for waiting as well as travel.
Connections: ask about baggage even when tagged through
Vietnam Airlines distinguishes baggage procedures by connection type and eligibility. Do not assume that a bag tagged to the final destination means you can walk straight to the next gate. At the first check-in, show both flights and ask whether to collect bags at SGN, where to hand them back, and whether check-in or security is required again. Do not apply one airline’s assistance arrangements automatically to separate tickets or another carrier.
- Ask the airline whether the connection is valid and who helps after an inbound delay; this guide does not promise a minimum connection time
Departure day: work backwards from terminal arrival
Check your airline’s required arrival time and check-in and bag-drop deadlines before planning the journey back. Add time for checkout, stored bags, waiting for a car, traffic and the walk to the counter. A map’s driving estimate is only one part of the trip. Keep any last-day shopping or massage optional so it can be dropped without putting the flight at risk.
- Final check: date, flight, terminal, passport and required documents, bags, hotel collection, vehicle and payment method
- For a late arrival, confirm late check-in and the correct hotel night, especially when landing after midnight
