The day-by-day plan

Day
1–3

Hanoi

Arrive in Hanoi for old streets, lakeside walks and food. Keep at least one day free from out-of-town trips to adjust to arrival and weather.

Day
4–5

Ninh Binh

Choose two days in Ninh Binh or a two-day bay cruise, rather than squeezing in both. Return to Hanoi on day 5 before flying south to the central region the next day.

Day
6–9

Hoi An

Fly to Da Nang and transfer to a Hoi An base for early and evening old-town walks plus a beach day. Da Nang is an alternative base for city convenience. Day 6 remains a travel day.

Day
10–12

Ho Chi Minh City

Fly to Ho Chi Minh City for history, a museum and neighbourhood food. Arrange transfers using actual flight and terminal details and ease the pace toward the end.

Day
13–14

Ho Chi Minh City

Use day 13 for a manageable excursion or a final city day; stay local if departure is early. Day 14 is for the airport and onward travel, not another destination.

Make it your own

For a slower journey, omit one region and spend a week in each of the other two. Sa Pa, Phu Quoc, Da Lat and Nha Trang deserve their own time instead of taking it from sleep.
